General Debate speech
Hello everyone before getting started I want to thank you all for being with us here today, joining us in this special day. My name is Jocelyn Rodriguez Salmon and I am the delegate from Egypt representing UNEP. The two topics that I am going to be talking about today are deforestation and alternative fuel. To start of an alternative fuel also known as a non-conventional or sometimes even advanced fuel in many other words any material or substance that can be used as a fuel, as long as it’s not containing fossil fuels and nuclear materials such as uranium. The importance of alternative fuels being substituted for gasoline is important because it will reduce green house gas emission, therefore leading it to reduce the threat to human health and to the planet as well. If these changes were to be done the comparison between the prices of gasoline and alternative fuel would be a lot of a difference being that gasoline can cost you three to three dollars and fifty cents per gallon, costing you only seventy to eighty cents per gallon if you were to run of alternative fuel and even better if you had an electric vehicle it would cost you even less to get yourself around town.
Moving on to my next topic, deforestation this is the cause of land being cleared illegal and legal without being replaced, being that sixty percent of the land is being cleared for cattle ranches, thirty three percent for agricluture, three percent for fires, minning, urbannization, dams, and road construction; one percent for logging illegal and legally these are the majors cause for deforestation in the Amazon. Know you may be wondering who does it affect the rainforest produces twenty percent of the worlds oxygen other than us five-hundred thirty three species become extinct a day leading to fifty thousand a year the global climate is likely to change as the forest plays a major role in establishing carbon emissions. How bad is it? Is really bad an area of rainforest size of a football field is being cleared every second. What can we do to help is recycle, and plant trees, because it not only Decreases our production of oxygen needed to survive but the live hood of native people of the forest being destroyed, every year thousand of plants and animals species become extinct forever.
